Freedom – A Gift

This piece came like an unexpected wave.
I wrote it in one sitting, with no intention of it carrying so much—but alas, even when I try to stay lighthearted, my emotions come to play.
I hope you can appreciate the layers that this day brings.

Freedom
Sunshine
Sunscreen & shade
Blankets, chairs, watching the parade

Freedom
Hotdogs
Watermelon & juice
Oh no, the dog got out & is now on the loose

Freedom
Laughter
A beach or a pool
Friendship, pies, & a cornhole duel

Freedom
Sparklers
Red White & Blue
Lightning Bugs & Fireworks, the best point of view

Freedom
A privilege
A gift some destroy
Freedom’s not free—not all can enjoy

Freedom
It’s ours
Stay humble — let’s cheer
Be blessed, stay cool, be glad that you’re here

However you’re spending today—loud or quiet, joyful or complicated—I hope you find a moment to appreciate the freedom that it brings in all of its complexities. Happy 4th of July!
