The Destiny of a Chair

Do you hear the soft rain in the distance?
It’s quite mostly.
Calm & unnerving.

It’s not dark, but not blinding either.
There’s a single lamp on an end-table in the corner.
Beside it—
a wooden chair.

The chair is empty
but longs to be sat in,
its destiny not yet fulfilled.

But instead of sitting,
you stand and stare,
hoping something else will sit for you.

Nothing else is coming though.

You’re alone.
You’re always alone…

So just go.
Rest your legs.

Sit in the chair.
You’re prolonging the purpose.

There’s nothing wrong with the chair.

It’s sturdy,
warming even.
Maybe not the most comfortable,
but surely better than standing.

So why not go sit?
What’s holding you back?

Your own calling?
But what if your destiny
is to sit in the chair?

You’ll never know…

Just take one step.
The purpose will become clear.

You want to sit.
But your feet won’t move,
seemingly rooted to the floor.

And now you watch in anguish
as the chair is wasted.
Waiting for the inevitable.
Unwilling to break free.

The light flickers.

Before you know it,
the chair is gone.

The suffering now yours.

Well… what does the chair represent for you?
